Inside the build

I've got a request to make a MOLLE attachable side pouches for a backpack - quite common flexible solution to expand capacity of backpacks which have PALS panels.

As it often happens with custom requests, I had to make some guess work about the capacity and sensible pouch dimensions. Like, you don't want the pouch to maybe be too wide or deep or else it will weirdly stick out, when you carry it on the back. And my custom client didn't know what capacity he will need.

Well, since my client was mostly running out of space, when prepping for a winter bushcraft trip, I decided we had to go all in on capacity. I noticed most of the bigger side pouches on the market sit around 8 litres, so I pushed it a bit and went with 9. The dimensions were adjusted to fit my client’s backpack sides. I only tried to keep the depth in check, so the pouch wouldn’t stick out too much.

You may notice I used embroidered tag instead of directly embroidering on the bag this time, like on Silky Bigboy cover, but that's just because I had some tags left.

The result and the field test

Bags have been in use for a few times now, and they hold up well, although I didn't use Cordura this time, only polyester.

But the thing is - it still too small :D So I'll be working on bigger boys now. Maybe 12 litres? And maybe a bag to attach to the bottom (new request! :D). And I think this time I'll use some nice coyote Cordura 1000D as we're now more sure, what capacity will do the job.
